Value accumulates over time, usually in tiny steps. Our success doesn’t come from one big promotion, and our small business doesn’t leapfrog into a big one. And our relationships also grow in increments. It’s the little, cumulative things that add up. It’s about value – the benefit of adding it.
The facts are proven when they show you how to save for retirement. Hardly anyone wins the lottery or has the proverbial rich uncle. So they save, and little bits saved over time accumulate and appreciate in value. You can use the same philosophy to increase your value at work, or of the business you run, or of your personal relationships.
Employees who want to increase their value at work can benefit, too, by finding little ways to increase their value daily. You can increase the value of your relationships the same way. Just remember:
- Make knowing you a benefit to others
- Look for little ways to add value
- Do something mundane a little better today
- Add a little flourish to a task you have to do
- Appreciate others around you, they’re trying too
Consider value, and the benefit of adding it. Even in the most difficult times, we can save a little, or give a little more at work, or inspire others, even if it’s just a little. Add it up, and watch the value of those relationships accumulate.
